Card Details

The CSR is a great travel card and generally better option than the CSP by offering better earn rates and more benefits. The main allure of the card are the 3x UR on dining and travel, Priority Pass lounge access, 1.5x points travel portal/pay yourself back bonus, transfere partners, and Global Entry Credit. If you don’t value these perks much or primarily transfer to travel partners without using the other benefits, the CSP may be a better choice for you.

Similar to the personal platinum, this card is used for its benefits not its point earning potential. This card presents a lot of credits that can be a hassle to use but if you can make use of them, the credits will cover the majority of the fee. View our [guide] on using biz plat credits. The biz plat also comes with Amex Global Lounge collection access which is superior to the Priority Pass membership that comes with most other premium travel cards. This card comes with a huge SUB which alone makes it worth getting for 1 year if you can hit the minimum spend.

  • 120,000 MR after $15,000 spend in 3 months (there are 150k and 170k offers as well, YMMV)

Verdict

Card Details

The Amex platinum is a card mainly used for its benefits not its point earning potential. The annual credits may be a pain to use but they do have the ability to cover the annual fee if you use them all. The hotel credit and Uber credit are relatively straightforward to use. The Saks, digital streaming credit, and Walmart+ credit are not for everyone so this may affect how much benefit you get out of the card. Credits aside, access to the Global Lounge benefit is a huge perk and a major reason why people get this card. 5x on flights is good but there are better MR earning cards like the Amex Gold. Overall, if you can make use of the majority of the benefits, this card is a keeper but it’s definitely not for everyone. The SUB should at least cover the first year AF and more so that’s still a reason to get the card even if you don’t decide to keep it after the first year.

  • 80,000 MR + $100 statement credit after $8,000 spend in 6 months
  • Amex Global Lounge Collection Access

  • $20 monthly credit for digital streaming services like Hulu, Disney+, etc.
  • $155 Walmart+ Membership credit
  • $200 Annual Uber Cash (note that it is $15 monthly then $20 in December)
  • $189 Annual CLEAR credit
  • $300 Equinox credit
  • $50 semi-annual Saks on 5th Ave credit

For the vast majority of people, this card is only good for the SUB. There are no credits to help offset the fee so if you aren’t able to maximize the business oriented 4x categories, I don’t see how this is a long term keeper card.

Card Details

The CSP is a good no frills card for those looking for a happy medium between basic credit cards and premium travel cards. It offers decent point earning and access to transfer partners for a reasonable annual fee. This cards makes most sense for those who travel occasionally and don’t want to deal with lots of credits or pay large annual fees. If you are a frequent traveler who values lounge access and uses the 1.5x via the travel portal often, the CSR or Amex plat may be a better choice for you. However if you only really value Chase transfer partners, the CSP is a good low cost option to keep that avenue open.

The Chase Ink Preferred (CIP) is a flexible business card that offers a low cost way of keeping access to transfer partners alive. The SUB isn’t as great compared to the CIC and CIU but it does offer bonuses on categories that the other cards don’t have access to. If looking for a card to maximize shipping / advertising purchases or you don’t have a sapphire and want to still utilize transfer partners, this card could be for you.

The Chase Ink Cash (CIC) is offering a terrific SUB that can be churned. In addition to that, it is a solid keeper card with big UR earning potential on office supply stores. You can purchase 3rd party gift cards like Uber from staples/office depot and get 5x whereas you normally would’ve gotten 3x on those purchases. The 5x on cable and internet are a great category that many people can take advantage of.

Card Details

This card is basically the business card version of the Chase Freedom Unlimited. This card is great as a non category spend card that earns a higher rate than the normal 1x. Do note that this card has a FTF so don’t take this traveling. The CFU SUB is not great so if possible, you should always get this card over the CFU as it will give you a higher SUB and save a 5/24 slot.

  • 90,000 UR after $6,000 spend in first 3 months

Verdict

Card Details

The Alaska Airlines Business card is basically the same card as the Alaska Airlines Visa personal card and is a solid card overall with a good SUB and the companion fare. The main differences are that this card is a business card and thus doesn’t use a 5/24 slot and has 2x on shipping instead of streaming services. Alaska miles are very valuable when used to book partner awards and the companion fare can add some great value if traveling with a companion. Alaska miles are hard to earn as none of the major credit cards issuers have Alaska as a transfer partner so this card is one of the best ways to earn Alaska miles with decent category multipliers. Unfortunately, the companion fare eligibility got changed to have the annual $6,000 spend requirement which makes this card less attractive. If you don’t fly Alaska often and are an active churner, this card isn’t worth holding onto past the first year as that $6,000 in spend can be used towards a new SUB.

  • 50,000 Miles + $100 statement credit + companion fare after $3,000 in spend in first 3 months
  • Annual companion fare allowing booking of companion flight starting at $122 after $6,000 in spend within the year
  • Free checked bag for you and up to 6 guests when booking flight with Alaska Airlines Business card
  • Priority boarding
  • 3x miles on Alaska flight ticket purchases
  • 2x miles on gas, shipping, local transit
  • 10% rewards bonus on all purchases in a year if you have a Bank of America business account
  • 20% back on Alaska Airlines inflight purchases when paying with Alaska Airlines Business card
  • $100 off an annual Alaska Lounge+ Membership purchased with Alaska Airlines Business card

The Alaska Airlines Visa personal card is basically the same card as the Alaska Airlines Business card. The main differences are that it takes a 5/24 slot being a personal card and has 2x on streaming services instead of shipping. The verdict of these two cards is basically the same in that they both are good choices for earning Alaska miles which are harder to earn compared to other airline miles. The SUBs of the two versions will generally match each other so if one is currently elevated, high chance but not always that the other will soon follow. Unfortunately the companion fare eligibility got changed to have the annual $6,000 spend requirement which makes this card less attractive. If you don’t fly Alaska often and are an active churner, this card isn’t worth holding onto past the first year as that $6,000 in spend can be used towards a new SUB.

Verdict

Card Details

The Amex gold is a great MR earning card that basically pays for itself if you can utilize of all the credits. The category multipliers are great with dining and groceries being easy for the majority of people to take advantage of. For those living in urban areas where Uber and Grubhub are popular or who spend a lot on groceries, this card will make a lot of sense for them. There’s no real easy way to cash out MR at 1cpp or higher without jumping through hoops, so have a plan on how you will use the MR before grabbing the card. This applies to all credit cards but especially with MR earning cards.

  • 4x MR on dining

Verdict

Card Details

This card is decent if you stay/redeem at Hyatt properties a lot or value having status with them. At first glance, the initial SUB is pretty low and even with the bonus spend, only getting 60k points for 15k in spend isn’t worth it. You could grab an ink with 75k UR for 6k in spend to transfer to Hyatt. However, the card makes up for this with the free night. Category 1-4 hotels usually aren’t that exciting but a free night at a category 4 is around $150 depending on your area. This alone can make up the annual fee. Discoverist isn’t that great of in terms of benefits but the 5 qualifying nights and potential to earn more with spend does help for someone who values status and wants to make it easier to achieve that. So overall, unless you’re someone who stays a lot at Hyatt properties and has status with them, you’re probably better off grabbing a UR earning card like an ink and transferring to Hyatt.

  • 30,000 Hyatt Points after $3,000 in spend in first 3 months, up to 30,000 bonus points by earning 2x points in first 6 months up to $15,000 in spend
  • 4x points on purchases at Hyatt hotels + 5x points if a World of Hyatt member
  • 2x points on dining
  • 2x points on airline tickets
  • 2x points on local transit
  • 2x points on fitness club and gym memberships
  • Free category 1-4 night every cardmember year anniversary
  • Free category 1-4 night if you spend $15,000 in a year

Verdict

Card Details

The Citi Premier is a great all around card with a lot of great category multipliers and access to transfer partners at a reasonable annual fee. The hotel credit can provide extra value if you utilize it but the drawback is that you have to use the Citi travel portal which may not always give the best rate as compared to booking directly with the hotel. This card makes sense for those who can take advantage of Citi transfer partners and want a singular card that has multipliers in a lot of categories.

Verdict

Card Details

The Aeroplan card is a very strong card with the benefits it offers. Unfortunately, the full SUB is hard to achieve and the return isn’t the great at just 100k points. The SUB should really be viewed as 75k for $4,000 in spend which is solid and definitely worth considering. The card also comes with other perks like Aeroplan 25k which maps to Star Alliance silver, PYB, Global Entry credit, and ability to attain higher status purely through credit card spend which are all pretty good for just $95. Air Canada also has the most partners in the world and offers great rates at booking Star Alliance partners so if looking to book something with Star Alliance, the Aeroplan card is a strong candidate to consider.

Verdict

Card Details

This card is pretty underrated in terms of premium travel cards. It offers great perks like lounge access and transfer partners for basically no annual fee as the annual travel credit and anniversary bonus pay make up the card’s AF. The other great perk of this card is that authorized users are free to add and they also get lounge access! It’s a little unfortunate that there are no multipliers on direct travel bookings or dining but the 2x on all purchases is not bad for all purchases. This card is a good alternative to the more mainstream CSR and Amex platinum cards if you can use the transfer partners or want your authorized users to have lounge access.

Citi AAdvantage Executive

Admirals Club Lounge Access

$100 Global Entry Credit

Intro Offer

70,000 Miles

Annual Fee

$595

Verdict

Card Details

The main benefit of this card is the Admirals Club membership which normally costs $850 for a new one and $800 to renew. This already presents great value in getting this for $595 per year. Authorized users also gain access to Admirals Clubs but unfortunately it costs $175 per year for the first 3 authorized user and then $175 for each authorized user thereafter. This card has a similar “coupon book” structure to the popular Amex cards with all of the statement credits. This makes it more inconvenient to get true value out of the card. What makes it worse is that even if you use all of the Lyft, rental car, and Grubhub credits, you only get $360 back which doesn’t even cover the whole annual fee. There is the option to earn bonus loyalty points with credit card spend but the spend amount required is high and probably not worth it for the majority of people unless you really value AA status and were planning on doing heavy credit card spend to reach it. If you travel from American hubs frequently with Admirals Clubs and can take advantage of the credits, this card is a great option for you. Otherwise, the card probably isn’t a good choice due to low mile earning potential and lack of other auxiliary benefits that help offset the $595 AF.

The Hilton Aspire has a high AF but offers solid benefits and credits that cover the AF if you stay frequently at Hilton Resorts. The card gets you automatic Diamond status which is pretty valuable with perks like executive lounge access, free breakfast, 100% points bonus on stays, late checkout, room upgrades etc. The annual free night, airline credit, and resort credit make back up the AF if you are able to take advantage of those.
